Hello Houston Flashmob!

We have a great opportunity to have a flashmob for the movie “Daybreakers” this Saturday the 2nd at 12:30pm in the Galleria area. Please RSVP at the bottom of this post.

If you want to be a vampire, dress all in black with white makeup. We will have fangs and blood bags for you. Make signs that say “Will work for blood” or variations of that. If you can make more than on sign that would be really great :).

If you want to be a human, dress up as a post-apocalyptic survivor to chase off vampires.

If you want to show up to take photos or videos that would be great!

The rest of the event will be explained to everyone when they show up.

On January 24th, 2009 at 2:00 pm the we conducted our first Mp3 experiment at Discovery Green in Houston, Texas. This was our first Mp3 experiment and will definatley not be our last.

We wrote and recorded the script that was downloaded by our participants. We split them into two groups based on their birthday without their knowledge.

Around 2pm, I whipped ou the bullhorn and asked everyone to prepare to play the mp3 file. A few minutes later, I counted down from 5, said "GO" and hit the siren. There was about 30 seconds of ambient music played then our participants were introced to "F.R.E.D", "Flashmob Recording Experimental Device."

Since this was Fred’s first assignment, he was a little nervous so he asked everyone to let him know he was doing just fine by saying "You’re doing just fine FRED".

FRED determined that since everyone had been sitting so long they should get warmed up. So, he pulled up the "Hokey Pokey" from his limited exercise database.

After the Hokey Pokey, FRED asked everyone to head to the stage at the bottom of the hill.

Once we were all on the stage, FRED thought it would be a "pretty keen place to jam out in" so he fired up "Get Up Offa That Thing" by James Brown and everyone got DOWN

FRED then asked everyone to lay down in front of the stage so CINDY, his lovely satellite friend, could take a group photo.

Unfortunately, CINDY was upset because FRED had gotten the IP address from a MacBook the other day, so he had someone else take the photo

After the photo, one group turned into zombies while another group turned into ninjas and proceeded to the large open area to their left

Once we were all in the large grassy area FRED asked some people to be "it" for a game of freeze tag.

When the game ended FRED asked everyone who was frozen to melt to the ground. Since they were all melted with no hope of recovery, FRED asked the other participants to help them up off of the ground.

At this point we had quite a few confused onlookers.

Suddenly, "Chariots Of Fire" kicked in and FRED asked everyone to run to the sidewalk in slow motion.

At this point, FRED had become a little power hungry and wanted to expand his experiment to the whole world. Thankfully some brave technicians shut him down after the group yelled "Stop, FRED, stop!" to distract him. We wrapped up by thanking everyone, handing out discounted food and drinks at Coffee Groundz and telling everyone about our "Fred Is Dead" shirts. Overall, the 50+ participants had a great time, despite the funky Houston weather. We are working on the video right now and should have that up soon. We will holding our first Mp3 experiment January 24th at 2pm at Discovery Green. A few days before the event we will post a Mp3 file on our website, so check back often. We ask that DO NOT listen to the mp3 until the event starts. This is super duper uber mega important!

Please contact us (houstonflashmob@gmail.com) if you can video tape this event. We really need some video of the event.

So, without further ado, let’s talk details.

Where: Discovery Green on the “Fondren Foundation Performance Space” (click image for a larger view, or click here for a full size map.)

When: Saturday, January 24th, 2:00pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early since this is a synchronized event and you will need to find parking.

What: When you arrive pick a random place to sit on the hill facing the ice rink. You might want to consider bringing a small blanket or magazine to sit on. One of our team members will announce you should power up your mp3 player and get the track ready to play. Wait to hit start until see and hear the countdown. It will go, 3 2 1 GO! Press play on GO.

This is our first Flashmob Friday event! At least once a month we will announce a day of flashmob event on Friday. The FF might be a quick event, crashing another meetup, or a host of other things.

Our mission is dress up as either jocks or geeks and crash this party!

What:
Dress up as Joc ks and nerds.

Where /When:
Coffee Groundz at 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Events:
Every half our jocks will chant “Jocks! Jocks! Jocks!” and nerds will reply “Nerds! Nerds! Nerds!”

If you are a nerd, every time you hear someone say “twitter” let out a nerdy laugh, if you hear a nerdy laugh join in (nerdy laugh found here: https://www.audiosparx.com/sa/summary/play.cfm/sound_iid.4436 )

If you are a jock, every time you hear someone say “beer” yell out “Beer!!”. If you hear someone yell out “Beer!” do the same!

At 8:45 jocks will loudly proclaim together “Dwight Silverman is the nerd KING!”.
(If you go as a jock, find the other jocks and agree on a signal for this)

At 9:00pm jocks yell out “Get the nerds!!” at which time, the jocks will chase the nerds from the building and the flashmob will be over.
